New Rules for Japanese Casinos

Japanese Government has proposed new rules for the upcoming IRs (Integrated Resorts). The report is an overview of a Bill – known as Diet that features a set of suggestions on how to regulate the country’s nascent casino industry, such as restrictions on the access of Japanese residents to facilities and measures against organized crime as per The Japan News.

The report suggested among other regulatory aspects to ban the Automated Teller Machines at the local casinos, chips to be purchased only through cash and setting an “upper limit” to the size of casino floors.

Also, it is proposed that Japanese citizens should use their ‘MY Number’ ID cards to gain an entry to the IRs as the government will monitor their number of visits for social security and taxation purposes and that there will be a number limit of visits to an individual, according to local media reports. The entry will be allowed to citizens who are at least 20 years of age paying an entry fee. Foreign visitors can enter the IR premises for free.

Additionally it is proposed that IRs must feature other facilities such as hotel accommodation, international convention centers and recreational amenities (museums) promoting domestic tourism in Japan.
