Systems Engineer (SysOps)
The ideal candidate is an experienced engineer who combines deep technical expertise with commercial awareness, communicates clearly with both engineers and customers, and enjoys owning projects from first conversation to production.
Duties & Responsibilities
- - Lead the design, implementation, and maintenance of complex infrastructure projects across our data center locations, including virtualization clusters, dedicated server platforms, storage, backup, and high-availability systems.
- - Act as the senior escalation point for server-side issues, performing in-depth troubleshooting and root-cause analysis and driving permanent fixes.
- - Drive automation across server provisioning, configuration, patching, and lifecycle management, reducing manual effort and improving consistency.
- - Work closely with the NetOps team on architectures spanning routing, firewalling, load balancing, and DDoS protection, and with the DevOps team on deployment pipelines, tooling, and platform integration.
- - Engage directly with clients to gather technical and business requirements, then design and present tailored solutions, including multi-site, high-availability, and latency-sensitive trading environments.
- - Prepare solution designs, architecture diagrams, bills of materials, and cost estimates for client proposals, and support the sales team through the pre-sales process.
- - Partner with management to define, prototype, and launch new products and services, contributing technical direction, cost modelling, and pricing input.
- - Evaluate new technologies, platforms, and vendors, and recommend improvements to our infrastructure and service portfolio.
- - Establish and enforce standards for security, system hardening, monitoring, documentation, and change management.
- - Mentor engineers across the team and promote knowledge-sharing and best practices.
Required Qualifications
- - 5+ years of experience in systems engineering or infrastructure roles, with at least 3 years at a senior level, ideally within a hosting provider, data center, or cloud environment.
- - Expert-level Linux administration skills, plus solid experience with Windows Server environments.
- - Strong hands-on experience with virtualization platforms (KVM/QEMU, Proxmox, or VMware) and familiarity with containers (Docker; Kubernetes is a plus).
- - Proven experience with storage, replication, and backup technologies (e.g. RAID, ZFS, Ceph, DRBD, object storage, enterprise backup solutions).
- - Proficiency in automation and scripting (Bash, Python, Ansible; Terraform is a plus).
- - Good understanding of networking fundamentals (TCP/IP, VLANs, routing, firewalls, load balancing, VPNs), enough to design solutions jointly with network engineers.
- - Experience with monitoring and observability tools such as Zabbix, Prometheus, or Grafana.
- - Strong knowledge of security best practices, system hardening, and compliance considerations.
- - Demonstrated experience in solution design or pre-sales, including translating client requirements into technical proposals and cost estimates.
- - Excellent communication skills in English, with the ability to present to clients and work effectively with management.
- - Strong ownership, sound judgement, and the ability to lead projects independently.
