What is 3CX

Desktop App
The version 18 update has eliminated the need for a browser extension through the creation of a Windows Desktop App. The desktop app uses the same Electron framework as both Teams and Whatsapp, offering a heightened user experience by allowing users to easily answer calls without having to switch between apps.
Improved Mobile Apps
V18 has also seen the mobile apps undergo extensive upgrades for seamless remote working. This includes better codec management as well as improved reconnection in case of a network change. In collaboration with Google and Apple, 3CX V18 has also enhanced the reliability of push notifications to ensure users never miss a call or message. The version 18 updates also provide additional support for hands-free and Bluetooth devices as well as the integration of Siri for iOS users.
Teams Integration
Probably the most anticipated update was the Teams SIP Proxy, which provides 3CX users a cost-effective and seamless experience when dialling Teams users and vice versa. 3CX users can now take advantage of low cost tariffs offered by SIP providers for both domestic and international calls to effectively cut costs.
Enhanced performance and security
Finally, V18 has gone through extensive changes to enhance performance by using G711 to reduce transcoding to ultimately lessen processor usage, resulting in better audio quality and faster recovery from network drops. The update has also improved security features, having achieved an A+ on Qualys labs and A on Immunilabs. Updated to Debian 10 and upgraded to the latest .NET core, version 18 has focused on strengthening security having enabled easy call encryption with a simple SRTP configuration.
